History

In the mid 40's, the Wintonaire opened at it's current location at 628 Winton Road North. The vision was to provide a neighborhood establishment serving good food and drink, at a fair price to returning World War II veterans and their families. Business flourished and the Wintonaire became known as a warm and friendly spot to stop for a well poured drink, lunch or dinner. The name "Wintonaire" itself was a subtle reminder that air conditioning would cool it's patrons in the hot and muggy Rochester summers. The Flynns of Park Avenue were regular visitors.

The Wintonaire changed ownership in the late 50's, when Al Comardo became the proprietor. He wanted to continue the Wintonaire's tradition and did so with a steady hand. Comardo sold the business to Dick Costanza, his bartender in the mid 70's. Costanza made some much needed improvements. Good food, a well poured drink and friendly folks remained the standard. Baby boomers, now college students, filled the Wintonaire to overflow and parking was always at a premium. Costanza sold the business to his chef Bill Young and bartender Jim Stirling in the early 80's. They renamed the "Wintonaire" Youngers, but their customers continued to call it "The Wintonaire".

In 2009, after sitting abandon for some 8 1/2 years, Dick Flynn Jr. had a vision of restoring, remodeling and reopening the Wintonaire. The vision "your new old favorite". Along with his brother Terry and Father Dick Sr. as partners, they set about remodeling the Wintonaire from the basement to the roof, upgrading all systems within. With so much help from family and friends, the Wintonaire opened September 13th, 2009 to a packed house. The vision remains unchanged from the 40's. Good food and drink at fair prices, a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Dick and Terry have selected a team of associates including Lisa Flynn (Terry), mom Pat Flynn as well as many other familiy members, who's mission is to provide it's customers with the best possible experience. Our goal is to exceed your expectations. Please let us know how we do.
